Thank You, Pealows Independent Grocer — for Showing Up for Trails
Creston has many community partners who keep showing up, year after year, because they genuinely care about the place they call home. Two such folks are Brian and Julia, of Pealows Independent Grocer right here in Creston. And we think they deserve a proper thank you.
A History Worth Celebrating
Our relationship with Pealows goes back to our very first fundraiser — and every year since, they've been there.
Year One set the tone. We were hosting our inaugural silent auction, and we wanted the evening to feel special. It was a June Strawberry Moon, and we leaned into it — chocolate and fresh strawberries as centrepieces for the evening, a sweet indulgence for our guests and supporters as they bid on some wonderful items and helped build the future of trails in the Creston Valley. Pealows made that moment possible.
Year Two brought our Annual Summer Fundraiser, and once again Brian and Julia answered the call — this time with baked goods that became the most delightful little cookies our guests indulged in. Simple, warm, homemade-feeling. Exactly the kind of treat that makes people linger, connect, and enjoy the evening a little longer.
Year Three, our Bear Fair brought a different kind of ask. With volunteers on their feet and working hard, what they needed most was hydration. Pealows donated the water that kept our crew going. No fanfare needed — just practical, generous support exactly when it mattered.
Our recent and Our Biggest Ask Yet
This year, we came back to Brian and Julia with something a little more ambitious. We're heading into the bush.
As part of BC Trails Days, TCVS is launching what we believe will be our largest single work bee to date. We're anticipating upwards of 40 volunteers descending on Nun Creek to begin the work of clearing 4 kms of overgrown alder — and reclaiming a trail that the Creston Valley has been missing for far too long.
The Nun Lake Trail was once a well-loved backcountry route, regularly paired with the neighboring Monk Lake Trail as a cherished destination for hikers and adventurers from across the valley and beyond. Over the years, without regular maintenance, sections became severely overgrown. In some places, the trail disappeared entirely. Restoring access to this corridor is a meaningful project — and it starts with getting to the trailhead.
Forty volunteers. Four kilometres. A full day of hard work in the bush.
And at the end of it? A hot meal, donated by Pealows Independent Grocer.
That's the kind of thing that turns a long, hard day into a memory. It's the kind of gesture that tells a volunteer: your time matters, you are appreciated, and this community has your back.
To Brian and Julia
Thank you. For the strawberries and chocolate on a summer evening. For the cookies. For the water on a busy volunteer day. And now for the meal that will fuel 40 people doing something genuinely meaningful for the trails of the Creston Valley.
You are more than a sponsor — you are a community partner in the truest sense. We are grateful, and we hope everyone reading this will take a moment to support a local business that so clearly supports all of us.
