Last May, the Trails society asked the public to express their opposition to draft bylaw amendments proposed by the RDCK that would have required all new parks, playgrounds and trails to be approved by the RDCK.  This amendment could have been used to limit or even stop the creation of new parks, playgrounds and trails.

The Trails society would like to send out a big “thank you” to everyone who sent an email to the RDCK expressing concerns about these bylaw amendments.  The RDCK received over 200 emails in opposition and those emails have prompted them to rewrite the amendments so new parks, playgrounds and trails used for passive recreation, e.g. walking, hiking and biking, will not require approval from the RDCK.  These new changes are acceptable to the Trails society.

The RDCK is holding an online public hearing on Monday November 22nd at 6:00pm to answer questions regarding the updated bylaw amendments.  People must register beforehand to receive an invitation to the public hearing.  More details are available here: http://www.rdck.ca/EN/main/services/land-use-planning/applications.html
