Fresh Signs and a Brand New Box: Balancing Rock Trail Gets Some Love

If you've visited the Balancing Rock Trail lately, you may have noticed something looking a little sharper out there. A set of newly refurbished trail signs has been installed along the route, giving the trail a polished, welcoming look that matches the experience waiting for visitors on the other side of the trailhead.
And today, the finishing touch went in: a brand new trail registration box.
The original box had seen better days. After years of weather and wear, it had deteriorated to the point where only the door and a few internal pieces were worth salvaging. Everything else had to go. So we rebuilt it from scratch — and we didn't have to look far for the craftsmanship to make it happen.
The new box was built by members of the Men's Shed group right here in Creston, a community of skilled hands who give their time and talent to projects exactly like this one. It's solid, functional, and built to last — and it carries with it the kind of local pride that no off-the-shelf replacement could.
Projects like this one are a good reminder of what trail stewardship actually looks like in practice: it's not glamorous, and it rarely makes headlines, but it's the steady, hands-on work of community members that keeps our trails accessible, safe, and worth coming back to.
A big thank you to the Men's Shed group for their craftsmanship and generosity. The Balancing Rock Trail is all the better for it.
Head out and see it for yourself — and don't forget to sign in at the box! 🪵🌲
