A Trail of Gratitude: When Volunteers Lead the Way

At Trails for Creston Valley Society (TCVS), we’re proud of the momentum we’ve built—but every now and then, life reminds us that even the best-intentioned plans can hit a snag.
Last week, one of our scheduled work bees didn’t roll out quite as planned. With everyone juggling full schedules, leadership on the ground didn’t materialize as it should have. It was a hiccup in our coordination—but what happened next turned into one of the most heartwarming reminders of why we do this.
Our incredible volunteers didn’t wait for instructions or guidance. They showed up, drove to the site, and got to work—clearing brush, removing debris, and restoring the trail with quiet determination. That kind of initiative, done simply for the good of the community, speaks volumes. It’s more than volunteering—it’s true stewardship. Thank you!, you know who you are!
And if that wasn’t impressive enough, this past week we put out a call for help with one of our most physically demanding tasks to date: carrying twelve large bridge beams—each close to 500 lbs—into position along the Sanca Creek (Haystack) Trail. With help from the RSTBC trail crew and some of our younger volunteers, those beams were moved into place in just over three hours using straps and poles provided by RSTBC. A tremendous effort by a dedicated team.

These past two weeks have reminded us of something important: when community is at the core, the work gets done—even when the plan isn’t perfect. To every volunteer who showed up, stepped in, and carried forward—literally and figuratively—thank you. You inspire us.
Upcoming work on the trail includes installing a brand-new aluminum bridge across the creek, adding several smaller footbridges and boardwalks, and completing essential trail upgrades to ensure safer, more accessible paths for everyone to enjoy.
We remain committed to maintaining safe, beautiful, and accessible trails throughout the Creston Valley—one step, one beam, and one act of kindness at a time.
With deep appreciation,
The Trails for Creston Valley Society Team
