Correction: Previous post said the work bee was Sunday September 2nd when it should have been Sunday September 3rd.  The date has been corrected in this updated post.

Volunteers needed!

This Sunday September 3 at 7:00 a.m., members of Trails for Creston Valley Society will be meeting to drive up to Midgeley Cabin for a work bee.

If you have never been to Midgeley Cabin, and if you don’t believe in sleeping in on long weekends, then this opportunity could be for you!

Midgeley Cabin is one of TCVS’s newest projects. Located up Topaz Forest Service Road on the west side of the Creston Valley, this old trapper’s cabin sits in a forested subalpine basin, sleeps four people and is getting repaired so that it can be turned into a provincial recreation site complete with the option for four-season overnight reservations.

On this trip, led by Gwen Telling, we will be installing new windows in the cabin and digging a pit for the new outhouse. We are leaving town early to beat the heat, and should be back in town by mid-afternoon. The drive is 1 hour each way (carpooling available, 4×4 road), 45 min easy hike each way between trailhead and cabin. Please bring shovel/pulaski if available.

Also, please bring lunch, water, work gloves, hat, hiking boots.

Meet at 7:00 a.m. this Sunday September 3 at the Overwaitea mall parking lot, north end near the “old Big Scoop” (aka former Family Restaurant). Please RSVP to Adam at kootenay_man@hotmail.com if you can join us!

Thanks.
