The winners of the “Name The Trail Contest” are listed below.

Even though none of the submitted trail names were chosen they did help to inspire the creation of the trail name, Ka Papa Cedars.  Ka Papa means grandfather in Ktunaxa – Yaqan Nukiy language.  Grandfather relates to the advanced age of many of the trees, the masculine feel of the area, the wisdom of the forest and feelings of endearment toward these trees (with cedars being the focus).  It is not a generic term.  The word is easy to learn and has personality in tone, making the name distinctive and intriguing.  We recognize that many people wanted Ralph Moore’s name to be in the trail name.  However, we are honouring his family’s wishes by not using it.  A Ralph’s Grove memorial will be placed on the trail loop.

Thank you to all of those who helped create awareness of this new trail and took the time to submit their trail name ideas.  In appreciation, we entered all of the contributors’ names into a draw box.  Prizes were graciously donated to TCVS.  Thank you to:
– Vital Health for donating a large bag of health care products
– JC Sharpening and Knife Shop for donating trail shovel and three different knives, and
– King Fisher Books and Cafe for donating a gift certificate valued at $25.

Winners can pick up their prizes at the Creston Visitor Center during business hours.  Congratulations to the winners: Toni Jackson, Heidi Postnikoff, Kim Wozencroft, Kveta Jasek, Joel Comer and Maureen Cameron.
